A little bit more then a year ago a friend working for a broker company had send me an email with an attached file - the legendary "Dancing Baby".
Well, at that time I was a real internet novice and unfortunately unable to open the file. So remained the dancing baby still a big mistery to me for many weeks. I did try though to find this little dancing wonder while surfing the internet for hours at the time but the only thingy I did find was this little animated graphic An other dancing baby... which I my self not really considered to be that cute but at least it is kind of funny.
It was not until I finally discovered a gif version of the real dancing and amazing baby in a WBS chat room.
I did ask the woman using this file for permission to put it on line my self for usage on my web page. She first denied my wish but later on granted permission and so I did use the dancing baby in Renee's home page.
A couple of months later I stolpered over this link exchange banner The Unofficial Dancing Baby Homepage leading me to the The Unofficial Dancing Baby Home Page.
At the time I did visit this home page the first time the webmaster of "The Unofficial Dancing Baby Home Page" did state that he had not created the dancing baby nor would he know who did.
Now this has changed as the dancing baby gained a lot more popularity.
It is written on Rob Sheridan's page now that it was a sample file in the Kinetix Character Studio product. Both the Character Studio software and dancing baby sample were created by Unreal Pictures Inc (of Palo Alto, CA) for Kinetix, the multimedia division of Autodesk.
The Dancing Baby was 'born' many years ago as Viewpoint model # VP5653 - Toddler with Diaper.
Viewpoint provided the 3D model to Kinetix for inclusion with Character Studio 1996, and the Dancing Baby evolved from that partnership.
From its humble origins in the multimedia division of Autodesk, Inc, the Dancing Baby has been transformed into a virtual phenomenon. It all started in the Kinetix product Character Studio™, with a sample animation of an infant doing the Cha-cha. Since then the Dancing Baby has been embraced and customized by animators and graphics enthusiasts everywhere.
Recently the Dancing Baby has made its way into the mainstream with it's introduction on the Golden Globe award-winning television program Ally McBeal. A clip from the Ally McBeal show featuring the baby was also shown during the Golden Globe awards ceremony on January 18th.

Currently there are many versions of the dancing baby available.
I only picked a few for you to download but you will find several links on the bottom of this page to other sites who might offer exactly your favorite version of this tiny internet boomy...

Permitted Uses of the Dancing Baby Image:
Autodesk, Inc. and Unreal Pictures, Inc. own the copyright on the Dancing Baby image.
Licensed Character Studio users may incorporate the Dancing Baby image into their own digital works and may distribute their work product subject to the restriction, among others set forth in the Character Studio End User License Agreement, that it may not be distributed as a stand alone commercial software product nor part of any other type of digitized commercial product where the Dancing Baby is the primary source of value. In other words, licensees are prohibited from commercially distributing the Dancing Baby image in any manner where Autodesk’s image is the primary source of value. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, any merchandise using the Dancing Baby image.

So, don't hesitate and download the dancing baby for your home page but do not abuse this poor little guy otherwise... J

To save the give files simply point your cursor to the graphic, right click it and choose "Save Image As...".
To view them first simply click through.

To save the Dancing Baby movies simply click the graphics below to save the dancing baby avi files of your choice. After it downloads, go to the your browser's menu and choose "file" and then "save".
